Governor Rajkhowa asked to step down

New Delhi, Sept 3: Arunachal Pradesh governor Jyoti Prakash Rajkhowa has been reportedly asked to step down from his post, weeks after the Supreme Court restored the Congress government in the northeastern state.

Rajkhowa has been told "verbally" by a junior Union minister and a senior official of the home ministry to step down on "health grounds", sources said in New Delhi on Saturday. The Governor's office, however, said there has been no formal communication from anyone asking Rajkhowa to resign from his post.

"There was no formal communication from anyone asking the Governor to resign from his post. But I have come to know that two-three individuals have spoken to the Governor and verbally indicated that," PRO to the governor Atum Potom told PTI over phone from Itanagar.

After getting the two calls from Delhi asking him to step down, Rajkhowa apparently had approached home minister Rajnath Singh to seek clarification on the issue. But the home minister did not ask Rajkhowa to step down, sources said. However, sources said, if Rajkhowa does not resign on his own, there is a possibility of central government asking President Pranab Mukherjee to withdraw his "pleasure", leading to his sacking.

By rule, Rajkhowa is entitled to a five-year term but it is subjected to the “pleasure” of the President. 71-year-old Rajkhowa was appointed as governor in May last year. The reported move by the Centre to seek Rajkhowa's resignation came weeks after the Supreme Court restored the Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh and censured the Governor for "humiliating the elected government of the day".

The move comes against the backdrop of the political crisis in Arunachal Pradesh triggered by the revolt by Congress MLAs. Congress rebel Kalikho Pul had become chief minister in February and was in power for five months after revolting against the then Congress government led by Nabam Tuki. Pul was subsequently dislodged from power by the apex court.

The Bharatiya Janata Party was providing outside support to Pul, who was found dead in mysterious circumstances in Itanagar last month. The apex court had criticized Rajkhowa for advancing the assembly session and fixing its agenda saying he cannot take away the House's discretion on the basis of "mere apprehension".

Sources claimed that there were efforts to woo dissident Congress MLAs, led by Pul, to the BJP side for installation of a BJP government in Arunachal Pradesh. But it did not materialise, sources said. Later, following a Supreme Court directive Pul had to resign and all dissident Congress MLAs return to the parent party, leading to installation of a Congress government.

"The return of a Congress government could have been checked had all dissident Congress MLAs joined the BJP instead of continuing as a separate regional outfit," sources said. Meanwhile, Rajkhowa fell ill and could not attend the swearing-in ceremony of Pema Khandu government, which succeeded Pul government. When Khandu expanded his ministry on 3 August, Rajkhowa again showed inability to come for swearing-in ceremony of the new ministers citing his ill health. PTI

BWS resents Govt apathy, reiterates demands

ITANAGAR, Sept 3: Expressing resentment over the alleged non-responsive attitude of the state Govt towards the grievances of the family members of late Sai Bagang, who was killed during shoot-out incident at Sangrungwa under Chayang Tajo in East Kameng district on 13th August 2016, the Bagang Welfare Society (BWS) has reiterated its demand for ex-gratia and a Govt. job for Yasuk Bagang, wife of late Sai Bagang.

Questioning the state government for its non-responsive attitude towards its various representations submitted earlier, the BWS further demanded the state government to provide free education to all the children of late Sai, up to class XII.

In a press meet held at Press Club here on Saturday, BWS claimed that despite repeated pleas and representations submitted to Chief Minister, Director General of Police and Deputy Commissioner East Kameng, none of the authority bothers to respond. BWS also demanded the government to erect permanent memorial structure as a mark of respect to late Sai at his burial site. Demanding immediate arrest of absconding accused Tagiung Yangfo, it further called upon the Govt for constitution of high level inquiry committee into the incident and to arrest/ suspend PSO of Late Bomto Kamdak, who was killed during cross firing.

"Chief Minister Pema Khandu had assured us to respond within a week, during our meeting, but two weeks have passed,

we get no communication from CM and any other authority" said Sinku Wada Bagang, BWS IPR Secretary.

"Our brother Sai Bagang was innocent, he had neither link with absconding criminal Tagiung Yangfo nor had any crime records. Late Sai’s death was happened due to negligence from the police department" Sinku added. He was killed by personal security officer (PSO) of late DSP Bomto Kamdak, he claimed in a statement.

"Late Sai was lone bread-earner in his family, he is survived by seven children and a wife, who will now look after them" questioned Bagang holding the police department responsible for his death.

BWS, GS Azad Bagang also condemned the police department claiming that Police did not follow the Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) in their attempt to apprehend accused Tagiung Yangfo which led to the death of efficient officer late Bomto Kamdak and their innocent brother Sai Bagang during shoot-out.

The Society further expressed displeasure at the state government, stating that members of their society have always been in receiving end in terms of negligence citing Gingia (Assam) incident wherein one Ratan Bagang, son of Taya Bagang was amputated by miscreants from Assam in retaliation to Tarasso (Behali) incident in January 2014. The society stated that though the government had assured to provide relief in terms of job, it is yet to be materialized.

Agitated at repeated denial of what the society claimed, it threatened to take up the path of agitation if the Govt fails to address their demands stating that if anything happens wrong the government will be held responsible.

BRTF driver swept away by flash flood, still untraceable

HAWAI, Sept 3: Driver Balbir Singh of 1444 BCC was reportedly swept away by sudden flash flood near Tiding, Anjaw on August 31.

The BRTF driver was washed away by flash flood when he along with OC Deveki Nandan was returning to the camp after a routine site inspection.

While the OC escaped the mishap with minor injuries, the body of the driver is still untraceable.

The BRTF and district administrations of Anjaw and Lohit continued search operation till Saturday evening.

Sniffer dogs are being used in the search operation, informed Commandant 48 BRTF Col. C Rajshekhar, who is leading the search operation along with Anjaw SP B. Kamduk and ADC Hayuliang K Jilen.

A look out notice for the missing driver has been issued by the Deputy Commissioners of Anjaw and Lohit separately.

Further, an order prohibiting movement in landslide prone zones/areas without permission of BRTF has also been issued. DIPRO

Incessant rain causes extensive damage to water supply

PASIGHAT, Sept 3: Two days rain caused extensive damage to the water supply sources and pipelines, informed AE (PHED) Kaling Taki. Sippi/Bosing source filled with siltation and choked the supply pipelines while Ledum Mega Project headwork disrupted- affecting twenty-two habitations under 37-Pasighat constituency.

AE Taki while regretting for inconvenience has informed that monitoring system has been intensified and the department is tirelessly working for immediate restoration of water supplies in and around Pasighat township and all villages under 37-Pasighat west constituency on priority. DIPRO

NES renews demand to recall Governor

ITANAGAR, Sept 3: Nyishi Elite Society (NES) has renewed its demand to recall Governor of Arunachal Pradesh JP Rajkhowa, saying that he has lost moral rights to continue as the Constitutional Head of the State after the historic July 13, 2016 Supreme Court verdict, wherein the action of the Governor has been declared 'unconstitutional.'

"The Supreme Court verdict signifies that Rajkhowa has no basic knowledge on Constitution of India. He is a novice in Indian Constitution and Parliamentary democracy and hence, he cannot be the highest constitutional authority of our state," NES stated in a release.

"He has done unprecedented damage to Arunachal Pradesh while exercising his power as the highest constitutional authority of the state. From day one, we have made it clear that we are not challenging the constitutional institution of the Governor, but against the erratic and unconstitutional behavior of Rajkhowa," NES president Bengia Tolum said.

"Because of his lack of knowledge on the constitutional fabrics and the anti-defection law, he misinterpreted and preached the wrong sermon of the Constitution of India and Parliamentary democracy into the nerves and veins of a senior prominent leader that led to his tragic end on August 9, 2016 after losing the post of Chief Minister, he might had never aspired if there was no Rajkhowa," the NES president said.

"The fate of dream project of only airport to connect the State capital is yet to see the light of the day because of his controversial report to the Government of India, the release added.

NES also alleged that the entire unprecedented episode was orchestrated by Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, who allegedly brought in Rajkhowa as Governor of the State.

ACS calls for voluntary resignation of Governor

Meanwhile, The Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has also called for voluntary resignation of Governor J P Rajkhowa. The ACS has also requested the President of India to recall the governor.

In a release, ACS stated that Governor should honour the Supreme Court verdict of July 13, 2016 and should morally step down from the post of Governor. "The illegal imposition of President Rule is violation of the Constitution. When a constitutional head is misleading, then he has no right to continue in the post," it added.

As per Arunachal Pradesh Annual Planning document of 2011-12, Arunachal Pradesh continues to remain poorest of the poor State with inadequate basic infrastructure and low economic growth. The unemployment figures for Arunachal are also the second highest in the country!

Unemployment is one of the major reasons for unwanted activities like theft, crime, extortion, insurgency etc. Unemployment is also one of the main reasons for drugs/alcohol addiction etc.

Government jobs/vacancies are gradually being saturated. Lesser and lesser jobs will be offered by the government. Recently the doctor’s retirement age has been increased from 58 yrs to 62 years. There is a high probability that the retirement age will be increased to 60 years for other employees also. This will lead to lesser job vacancies being created by the government. With increasing numbers of educated youth, job demands are multiplying. There are many unemployed youth in the state.

How do we increase job opportunities in the state?

One of the quickest ways to provide employment is by setting up more industries in the state.

New industries will result in creation of large number of jobs. In addition, other benefits will be accrued in terms of supporting infrastructure/ jobs like transportation, hotel, restaurants, banking etc in addition to more revenues for the state!

There are negligible industries in the state. The single most negative factor against setting up of industries in the state is the lack of stabilised three phase electric supply in the industrial estates! No industry can sustain without stabilised three phase electric supply. It appears that this simple aspect has not been paid adequate attention by our planners.

The other major problem is the lack of Single Window Clearance for setting up industries. Presently, Industry Licence is from a different Window, Trading Licence is from a different Window, Municipal/ Pollution Clearances are from different Windows, VAT/ CST registrations are from different Windows....etc. Creation of a truly Single Window Clearance will lead to faster establishment and operationalisation of new industries.

The second major avenue at job creation is the development of tourism in the state. With many pristine and exotic locations, Arunachal Pradesh has the potential to be a major tourist destination. Increase in tourism will lead to increase in supporting infrastructure/ jobs like transportation, hotel, restaurants, shops etc. However, for tourism to develop the govt has to build all weather roads and provide electricity in these exotic tourist locations. Presently the roads to most tourist destinations are in bad condition.

Another major job creation opportunity is the establishment of Central Institutes and major projects in the state. Central institutes including educational institutes will lead to job creation for native people. Similarly, major projects like Hydro Power Projects, Railways, Airports etc will create more jobs for natives.

There is a lot of work being done towards improving infrastructure in the state. However a lot more needs to be done towards establishment of more industries and improving tourism in the state.

Don’t we all want our children and relatives to be gainfully employed? Don’t we want to see our native brothers and sisters lead decent lives? Don’t we want to see a developed Arunachal Pradesh?

Ziro ALG and Prohibitory Order

In 1950 when the Indian Air Force authority was acquiring lands for Ziro Air Field the entire areas of present ALG including 900 meters from crest of outer parapet of ALG Ziro was free from residential structures, moreover present Ziro town was also not existed.

The IAF authority being an excellent premier defence organization of this country had made a major mistake by selecting the location of an Air Field adjacent to Old Ziro Hill (Ziro Puttu) whose height is equivalent to 20 stories building from ground level of Ziro Air Field. As per Works of Defence Act 1903 this Hill poses regular hazard of flight safety to ALG Ziro. It should have selected a better location when a vast areas of both dry and wet lands were available in Ziro valley at the time of acquiring lands for this Air Field. Moreover the IAF authority did not acquire required lands at that point of time for future up gradation of this Air Field. Now the IAF has to compromise their flight safety hazard with Old Ziro Hill ( Ziro Puttu) in time to come because it cannot be brought down to level of ALG as well as it is a heritage symbol of Ziro valley , moreover a town has also come up in last 60 years.

It is learned the Apatanis did not resort to resistance in this regard, moreover the lands were allowed without compensation. Besides allowing free lands the Apatanis had helped in clearing dry millet straws and bushes from the millet fields without wages in initial construction stage of this Air Field . However after some years again Govt. had acquired more lands by paying lump sum amount as compensation to affected land owners for expansion of this Air Field.

Secondly the concerned authority had never created mass awareness nor issued Prohibitory Order to local people not to raise building structures and plant trees within 100 meters from crest of outer parapet of helipad and 900 meters in case of ALG, therefore thousands of permanent residential structures have been constructed by local people in south west and north west of this ALG. These are also posing serious hazard of flight safety to this ALG because their areas are falling within 900 meters from crest of outer parapet of ALG. But in this regard their existence is more important than ALG because area is their birth place, moreover they do not have alternative places for their existence. Again IAF authority has to compromise hazard of flight safety with permanent residential structures. However after 61 years the DC Lower Subansiri had issued a Prohibitory Order related to this ALG dated 13th Dec, 2011 which is too late. Therefore the demand of Apatani Youth Association for lifting of this Prohibitory Order is very genuine and I endorse it.

Thirdly the existing road parallel to ALG Ziro is practically very less implication of flight safety hazard than Old Ziro Hill(Ziro Puttu) and thousands of residential structures. However the IAF authority has made up their mind to object only against the construction of highway on existing road is apparently reflecting its double stand to this effect.

Even if two-lane highway is not constructed on existing road, the present road will be remained forever parallel to ALG Ziro well maintain, because it is a standing direction of MoRTH. Then what is the much difference of two lane highway and existing road, may the very "word of highway" is helping the IAF authority in provoking Ziro valley in form of NOC issue. I wish concerned authorities and respective policy makers of this State and Nation would do their best in this NOC issue at the earliest for facilitating construction of highway on existing road. Siku river water damages to bridge, restoration work on

PASIGHAT, Sept 03: The people of Mebo Sub-Division are yet again facing the problem of road communication as the Siku river in spate caused huge damages to the approach road to the bridge toward Ayeng village side on Friday morning.

This part of Siku bridge along National Highway-52 between Ayeng and Mebo has been continuously facing huge erosion from last couple of years ago. The BRTF/BRO is doing their best to restore the portion of erosion, even a long guide bundh was also constructed some two years ago. But the overflowing River washed it off easily by the onset of monsoon. The efforts initiated by the BRO are seems failing and yielding no better results. Though the erosion was restored somehow, the uncertainty still lies there due to uncertain weather condition.

One Apaying Perme, an Anchal Samity Member of Ayeng village (Besok) has suggested the concern BRO to plan for expansion of the bridge by erecting two to three posts toward Ayeng as a measures to avoid yearly erosion and threat of communication disruption.

"As local people we have been observing the flow of the river Siku since our childhood. We have seen this river changing its course within no time. So, my suggestion to the concern authority to come up for expansion of its span than to build any kind of guide bunds etc", added Perme.

The Siku Bridge over Siku River is a lifeline not only for the people of Mebo, but also people of entire eastern Arunachal and upper Assam adjoining Arunachal. Hence, instead of wasting huge funds in the restoration work or in building guide bunds, the concern authorities of BRO or BRTF need to plan up for expansion of the bridge's span upto 2-3 pillars toward Ayeng/Pasighat side.

Meanwhile, some people including ASM Apaying Perme and Kaling Lego, General Secretary, Ayeng Welfare Society, have termed the excessive quarrying along the river bed toward Ayeng side as most serious reason behind the change of the river course toward Ayeng village. Kaling Lego has strongly pleaded the Dy. Commissioner and mining department to check the unregulated quarrying activities along Siku and Siang rivers.

Infrastructure and equipments provided in schools are as per norms: DDSE

PASIGHAT, Sep 3: East Siang DDSE J Yirang stated that infrastructure and equipments provided to schools are as per norms and guidelines.

Yirang who has taken charge on Aug 22 last has informed that one additional teacher has already been posted to Depi Primary Residential School on Aug-26 and posting of one more teacher is likely to be considered and the matter is under process.

He also informed that 12-Mile Pry. School and Maryom Pry. School were running with single teacher and additional teachers (one for each school) has been provided by the office of DDSE.

In addition, one teacher to Loglu Pry. School and one math/science teacher for Jarku UPS has also been posted. SMCs should take responsibilities to keep clean school campus and ensure hygienic in and around schools and report the DDSE time to time. Monitoring will be intensified and unannounced check will be conducted to ensure proper and smooth functioning of schools in the district, stated Yirang.

Meanwhile, Gender Coordinator Obit Jomrang Jamoh informed that as per instruction of the Deputy Commissioner, she had inspected the Depi Residential School on July 15 last and fifteen pairs of desks and benches were given to the school immediately after thorough discussion with the SMC. One head cook and two assistant cooks are posted in the said school and if their performance is not good may be reported to the DDSE for betterment. DIPRO

Kokrajhar to Kashmir Sadbhavna cycle yatra flagged off

KOKRAJHAR, Sep 03: Kokrajhar to Kashmir Sadbhavna cycle yatra, being organised by National Youth Project (NYP) was flagged off by Bodoland Territorial Council deputy chief Kampa Borguary from here today.

Borguary lauded the NYP for initiating the two-month yatra, headed by All India Sarboday Mandal secretary Chandan Pal, as it aimed at spreading goodwill and foster fellow feeling, communal harmony to develop a peaceful Indian society.

In all 30 cyclists and four girls including patriot enthusiasts Uttarakhand-based Laxmi Ashram president 83-year-old Ms Radha Bhatt, Sorvoday Samaj convenor Aditya Patnaik, Dharmender Rajput (Maharastra), tourism director Mohan Brahma, Kokrajhar Women College Prof Ajijur Rehman, NYP national secretary H P Biswas & Chaw Bonny Mansai (Arunachal Pradesh) joined.

Cyclists from four nations would join at Siliguri while on the way representatives of seven countries would join and continue till the end. It may be mentioned here that the NYP has spread its wings to 64 nations where its national integration and youth energy channelisation activities continue regularly.

No Eye donor yet in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Sept 3: As in the rest of the country, Arunachal Pradesh too is celebrating National Eye Donation Fortnight. Sadly, the state has no eye donor yet.

The Ramakrishna Mission Hospital here on Saturday held an awareness programme to mark the fortnight at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Chimpu. National Eye Donation Fortnight is celebrated every year from August 25 to September 8.

During the programme, state program officer for the National Program for Control of Blindness, Dr Taba Khanna, informed that the state has five eye donation centres but not a single eye donation has happened yet. Khanna hoped to involve student bodies, religious heads and institutions and voluntary organisations in the field of eye donation and pledged to give full support from the government.

"Blood donation movement also initially faced several hindrances but nowadays many come forward for voluntary blood donation," he said and urged students to be active volunteers and sight ambassadors.

Senior consultant ophthalmologist, Dr Lobsang Tsetim, gave a presentation informing that there is a huge gap between demand and supply of healthy corneas.

"Though there are many patients who require corneal transplantation, only few donate their eyes. This can only be overcome by dismissing myths and misconceptions of eye donation," he said.

Tsetim also urged students to play a positive and active role in overcoming obstacles in eye donation and educate people about the benefits of eye donation.

"Burying or burning the eyes during death serves no purpose but if it is donated then people can get good eyesight and a new life," he said and added that "through eye donation an individual lives even after death". VKV Chimpu Principal Jay Shankar also spoke on the occasion. More than 150 students attended the programme.

LLWS calls on CM

ITANAGAR, Sept 3: Lego Lemgo Welfare Society along with the family members of late (Er.) Marmi Tao called on the Chief Minister at his Bungalow on September 2 and appealed him to provide Govt job to an eligible member of the deceased on compassionate ground.

They also apprised the Chief Minister in details of the incidents that led to tragic death of Marmi Tao in the morning of August 15, 2016 at Longding.

LLWS urged the Chief Minister for a judicial inquiry to unearth the truth behind his death.

After patient hearing, the Chief Minister expressed his solidarity with the bereaved family and assured to consider the demand for appointment of one family member on compassionate ground. He also assured to immediately approve judicial inquiry into case, the release said.

The delegation was facilitated by Minister Jomde Kena and Liromoba MLA Nyamar Karbak.

LLWS also hailed Galo Welfare Society and Karko Ao Welfare Society for extending support to the bereaved family in the time of need.

Drawing and essay competition on Mother Teresa held

ITANAGAR, Sep 03: A drawing and essay writing competition was organized at Don Bosco Youth Centre and JNK Public School here as a prelude to the canonization of Mother Teresa, the Saint of the Gutters.

In all, 144 students from various schools of the Capital Complex participated in the event.

Organized by the Diocese of Itanagar, the event was to make known Mother Teresa and her works of mercy and compassion as the world draws close to her elevation to sainthood in the Catholic Church by Pope Francis on September 4 at Vatican City, Italy.

Speaking about the initiative by the Diocese of Itanagar, Bishop John Thomas, the Bishop of Itanagar said, "Mother Teresa is an extraordinary saint of our times who has shown to the world the beauty of giving selflessly to the poorest of the poor and all in need. Her works of mercy and compassion is being recognized all the more by the Church in this Year of Mercy. We hope her canonization will inculcate in young people the desire to be compassionate to everyone in need."

Though born as an Albenian, Mother Teresa made Kolkata and India her home and knit in love the world into a large family through her Missionaries of Charity, the Bishop added.

Jumsi Taring of Holy Cross School, Taba Nelo of St. Thomas School and Mayo Gichik of Green Mount School came first second and third respectively in drawing competition while Satam Kini of Gyan Ganga Vidyapeeth, J. Kimi Hai of Model English School and Hage Yasung of Good Shepherd Public School came first second and third respectively in essay competition.

The Diocese of Itanagar will give cash awards and certificates to the winners of both the competitions.

NERIST organises cleaning campaign

ITANAGAR, Aug 03: Around 250 NSS volunteers of NERIST conducted cleaning campaign inside the institute campus and Nirjuli market.

This activity was a part of various activities carried out by NSS cell, NERIST under "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan".

The volunteers also sensitized the shop owners of Nirjuli area about segregating garbage into biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and the need to discard them separately.

Besides the cleaning campaign around 50 saplings were also planted in various parts of the campus.

Prof. Binay Singh, Dean (SA) while addressing the gathering stated that NSS volunteers should take active role in preservation of environment. All the volunteers took a pledge to plant atleast a tree in a year and take care of it.

"Youths are the future of the nation and whatever the youths do and think today will be future of our nation. Therefore, youths should actively involve in various social activities and think about the interest of the nation," stated Dr. A. Dinamani Singh, Coordinator NSS, while addressing the volunteers.

Workshop on 'strengthening youth organizations'

CHANDIGARH, Sep 03: A workshop on 'strengthening youth organizations' for the youths of North East was held at Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Chandigarh in collaboration with Don Bosco Youth Centre, Itanagar on Saturday.

Fifty-one youth leaders from the North Eastern States and Ladakh participated in the workshop. In addition to the input sessions on leadership, discussions were also held on the proposed North East Youth Fest 2016 at Chandigarh in mid-November.

The young leaders expressed the desire to include all North East youth organizations representing various tribes and communities in the fest and to build greater collaboration and networking among the NE youth.

The leaders present expressed great happiness over the presence of a large number of student representatives from various states and communities and promised to work together for the success of the programme.

Stanzin Dawa, Regional Director, RGNIYD, Fr. Cyriac SDB., Director, DBYC, Itanagar and Amanpreet Kaur, Staff Member, RGNIYD interacted with the students and spoke about various issues concerning North East youth at Chandigarh.

Workshop on data collection

ZIRO, Sep 03: The two days district level workshop on student data collection in sync with U-DISE and House Hold Survey (HHS) was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Lower Subansiri at Block Resource Center Hall, Hapoli on Saturday.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner also disbursed Rs. 20,000 each in form of cheques to Lod Umpi, Class XII (Science) of JNV, Yachuli and Hage Nanya, Class XII (Hum) of Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Ziro sponsored by Muskan Welfare Society under its one-time financial aid to economically backward students.

While congratulating the proud parents, who received the awards on behalf of their daughters, the Deputy Commissioner urged the Deputy Director of School Education and his team to work with commitment for the welfare of the students and also to improve the overall educational scenario of the district.

He assured his full support to the education department in their efforts to manage and administer the educational system of the district.

SP reviews security arrangement ahead of Mega Solung

PASIGHAT, Sept 03: East Siang Superintendent of Police (SP) Pranav Tayal reviewed security arrangements in Pasighat ahead of the ensuing Mega Solung celebration from September 9 to 13.

East Siang police has been shouldered the entire responsibility of security arrangement for the Mega Solung, wherein MoS for Home Kiren Rijiju, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and other VIPs are expected to attend.

Tayal appealed for peaceful celebration of the Solung festival without any party politics.

Manpuri artistes to perform in DNGC

ITANAGAR, Sep 03: A 26-member team of artistes from Iramdam Manipur Artist Association (IMAA) (Eshei Lila) of Manipur, which arrived in the Bharat Scouts and Guides State Headquarters, Polo Colony, Naharlagun, will perform traditional cultural programme at DNG College, Itanagar on September 4.

The programme is organized by Manipuri Welfare Society of Arunachal Pradesh headed by S Deben Sharma as president.

On its arrival, the team organized a social service at BSG state headquarters campus on Saturday.

Awareness prog on legal literacy cum voluntary blood donation

ITANAGAR, Sep 03: Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) in collaboration with Arunachal Vivekananda Yuva Shakti (AVYS) conducted a one day legal literacy class and awareness programme on voluntary blood donation at the RKM Hospital Auditorium Itanagar.

Member Secretary (APSLSA) Budi Habung spoke on activities covered under legal services, steps to obtain legal aid and Lok Adalats while OSD (APSLSA) Dani Belo spoke on POCSO Act and Right to Education.

AVYS chairman of Ramesh Jeke explained eloquently the importance and benefit of blood donation. He called upon the people through his thought provoking speech to donate blood and save life.

Jeke further narrated about the real life situation faced in donating blood.

Principal of Eklavya Public School Debojit Dutta also spoke. The 11th and 12th standard students of Eklavya Public School and volunteers of AVYS attended the programme.

8-bed ward inaugurated at CHC Jairampur

Jairampur, Sep 03: Nampong MLA, Laisam Simai inaugurated a newly constructed 8-bed General Ward at Jairampur community health centre on Saturday.

Dedicating the new general ward to the rural people, Simai expressed satisfaction on the quality of project and asked the medical officials to render best service to the people of the region. Simai assured to procure beds and X-Ray machines for the CHC through MLALAD fund. With the inclusion of the general ward, beds and X-Ray machine CHC Jairampur will be capable to cater the emergency need of the sub-division.

Simai appealed all to keep aside the political differences and work for the welfare of the poor people.

Jairampur ZPM, Tusam Longri, ADC SS Choudhury, DUDA DD, George Joshep, Head GB, C Longri also expressed their views and asked the officials to be cordial with the local villagers and at least provide basic facilities available to the poor people coming from far flung areas.

PWD SE T Gara, PWD EE, CS Choutang, Power EE, PWD AE, senior public leaders along with panchayat and youth leaders were also present in the occasion.

Built at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs under BADP 2014, the ward will enhance the in house patient capacity of the CHC.

Earlier, SBI Jairampur donated two wheel chairs and two stretchers to the CHC.

APYC stages dharna against hike in fuel price

NAHARLAGUN, Sep 3: A dharna protesting against the hike of petrol and diesel prices was staged by the Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) at its office at Naharlagun on Saturday.

Speaking at the dharna, APYC spokesperson and councilor, Kipa Takum said that the fuel prices have increased several times and as a consequence, the price of the food grains and other essential commodities have gone beyond the pocket of the consumers.

In a release, APYC stated that the steep increase in petrol and diesel prices will inevitably affect the price of the essential commodities and the common people will be the worst sufferers. Such move of the BJP-led Govt is a clear manifestation of anti-common people and pro-rich people policy, it added.

The dharna was attended by APYC office bearers and youths.

Priest association reiterates demand

ITANAGAR, Sept 3: The All Arunachal Pradesh Abotani Abotani Nibu (Priest) Welfare Association has reiterated its demand for the monthly honorarium to the priests of the state. It had written to the chief minister asking for allocating fund for the current financial year 2016-17.

The association has called for granting Rs 15000/- per month to Pote Nibu (Head Priest), Poming Nibu (2nd priest) -Rs 10,000 per month, 3rd Nibu- Rs 7000 per month and Nyikoks and Boos (4th priest)- Rs 5000 per month.

PSC beat Sika FC 2-0, enter semis

ITANAGAR, Sep 03: Pasighat Sporting Club (PSC) entered into the semifinal of the Mega Solung Football Tournament beating Sika FC 2-0 in the second quarterfinal at JN College playground, Pasighat on Saturday.

Tator Jamoh scored both the goals for PSC. He scored the first goal within two minutes receiving a well-measured cross pass from Captain Thomas Ering.

Luck did not favour Sika FC as the team failed to convert despite numerous attempt on target.

Mongku FC will lock horns with OG FC on September four at the same playground at 2 pm.

Inter-VKV Chess Tournament begins at VKV Nirjuli

ITANAGAR, Sep 03:The Inter-VKV Chess Tournament began at VKV Nirjuli on Saturday, wherein 54 students from 31 VKVs are participating.

Deputy Director of Health Services Dr. Nabam Takang, who attended inaugural function, exhorted the students to consider chess as a game of passion and mental exercise to develop various life skills to encounter life-related problems.

Senior national arbiters from the Chess Federation of India Taba Anam and Tapi Shah were also present.

Prior to this, Principal of VKV Nirjuli Subhash Chandra Dixit highlighted the importance of the tournament.

Solung Gidii celebrated at Lower Silatoo

ITANAGAR, Sep 03: Solung Gidii was celebrated with great pomp and gaiety at Lower Silatoo under Lekang circle on September 1 and 2.

Solung is the main festival of Adi Community. It is celebrated every year from September 1.

Social service marks end of Sadbhavana fortnight

HAWAI, Sep 03: A mass social service (cleanliness drive) was organized here on Saturday marking the conclusion of Sadbhavana fortnight.

Spearheaded by District Administration and PHED, the event with theme "Clean Anjaw Green Anjaw" saw participation of all the government employees, PRI members, students and Bazaar Committee members.

T-Shirts and Caps with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Logo were distributed by the PHED.

The event was marked by the slogan of "Sampradayik Sadbhavana aur Swachtaa Abhiyaan Hamara Lakshya".
